Take Em To The Mattresses

It is interesting  just how quickly your perspective can be changed within a matter of time. I sat last night and wrote about the feeling of not knowing the direction to take my life toward. I have always been told that when in doubt, to challenge the problem  head on. I have  taken that also to mean that it is good to challenge God. Now I know that this may initially come across as a brash statement, but lets think about a couple things. One of my favorite stories from the Bible is of Jacob wrestling with God.  When Jacob was lost in the desert, unsure of where he would go, what his purpose was or how he would face his brother who he suspected of coming to kill him, what did he do? He went to be alone in the desert to ask for an answer. He then met and wrestled with a man (God) all night. When God asked him to stop and why he would not let him go, Jacob said "I will not let You go until You have blessed me." Jacob was so desperate for the answer and blessing in his life, that he would not release God until he was given what he wanted. In the end, God blessed him with a name, which was his new identity coupled with a purpose. His new name meant more than just a change in what he was called, but it was an identity as to who he was, and what he had undergone to take hold of his destiny. I take assurance in this story that God knows that I have questions. Questions about who I am, who He is, what my purpose is, how to face the different doubts and problems that I encounter in life. I gather that God is neither intimidated or upset by my desire to have these questions and problems answered. But rather, embraces the desire to love and help have these things answered. What is faith without the grounding of trust and the act of stepping out?  I seek to understand the answers to some of my questions, and encourage you to do the same in whatever facet you find yourself unsure of. To quote the Godfather 'Take Em To The Mattresses," and allow God the opportunity to show up and give you the understanding you desire.

  1. This is really good, I couldn't agree more! Reminds me of the Anthony Skinner cover of David Gray's Babylon: "If you want it, come and get it, for cryin' out loud!"
